Learning and Design in Context

This course is an introduction to designing for learning and engagement. Leveraging a “seminar plus field-based project” model, the course supports the exploration, interrogation and redesign of environments, drawing on theories of learning that emphasize the interconnections between people and contexts. The core tools that we leverage in this course, both as analytic tools and design frameworks, are theories of learning, focusing specifically on theories that account for the ways that social, historical and cultural contexts, and the resources of a particular environment, inextricably frame and saturate human activity.
