Academic and Program Policies
Length of Program
The Ed.D. in Leadership and Learning in Organizations is designed to be taken part-time (2 courses per term) and completed in 3 years.
Leaves of Absence
A student who does not attend classes for one or more terms must first request a leave of absence. Leaves are granted at the discretion of the Program Director and the Dean and are for a specified period of time, not to exceed three terms. If granted, the leave of absence maintains the student’s eligibility to register in future terms. A student who has suspended matriculation without an approved leave or a student whose leave has expired will be required to reapply to the college and will be subject to new academic policies or new degree requirements, or both. Students must speak with their Student Success Advisor (SSA) about any leaves of absence from the program. Students must then speak with the Student Success Manager to complete a Peabody Digital Learning Records Request form for the term(s) in which they wish to take a leave. As stated above, a student may not take a leave of absence for more than a total of three terms during the course of their program.
Withdrawal
Any student wishing to withdraw from the program must speak with their SSA and the LLO Program Director. In addition, the student must complete a Peabody Digital Learning Records Request form.
Add/Drop
Students have one week after the start of classes during which to add/drop classes and receive a full tuition refund. After this one-week period has elapsed, tuition refunds decrease by 10% per week. For example, a student who withdraws two weeks past the deadline would receive an 80% tuition refund. All add/drop requests must be accompanied by a Peabody Digital Learning Records Request form.
Background Clearance Requirement
The purpose of Tennessee’s background check laws is to prevent persons with certain criminal infractions from having direct contact with children under the age of 18 and/or vulnerable adult populations. Peabody will conduct background checks in compliance with state law, and Peabody policy expands this criminal background coverage to anyone involved with Peabody-related activities at any location, on or off campus, including but not limited to persons employed, volunteering, interning, contracting, or enrolled in academic programs at Peabody. This includes any student whose home school is Peabody and any student who takes classes or conducts research that brings them into contact with children and/or vulnerable adults (e.g. practica, research labs). This demonstrates Peabody’s commitment to protecting the welfare of children and vulnerable adult populations, and thereby helps maintain our access to research, practicum, and internship sites. For professional students in the online Ed.D. program, clearance is granted after successful completion of a criminal background check and the submission of an online consent form. More information about the clearance process will be provided with your enrollment information.
Health Insurance
Vanderbilt University requires all eligible students to be covered by a health insurance plan that is comparable to or exceeds the Student Injury and Sickness Insurance Plan offered through the University.
Domestic students who have other insurance that exceeds or equals the Student Injury and Sickness Insurance Plan may submit a request to waive the insurance. International students are not allowed to waive the Student Injury and Sickness Insurance Plan.
If you are a domestic student and do not wish to participate in the Student Injury and Sickness Plan offered through the University, you must complete an online waiver form indicating your other insurance information. The online waiver form must be completed no later than August 1 for Summer Admits, August 1 for Fall Admits, and January 1 for Spring Admits or you will remain enrolled in the plan offered by the university and will be responsible for paying the insurance premium. After submission of the waiver form, you will receive an email notification (at the email address you provide) indicating if your waiver has been approved, if additional information is needed, or if your waiver has been denied. All students who wish to waive coverage are required to complete an online waiver form at the beginning of each academic year.
Academic Calendar
View the Peabody Online Academic Calendar. Please note:
- The calendar for the online program has some slight differences from the on-campus academic calendar.
- If a live session class is scheduled to occur on a federal holiday, students should assume that they have class unless indicated by the academic calendar or the section instructor cancels class at their discretion.
